Road Tripping

about

Road Tripping is the second song from my “Love is in the Year” release where a new song is being shared online each month.

It’s an ode to loading up a van and driving around this beautiful Earth with your nearest and dearest. The lyrics detail a collection of adventures centred around exploring new places, seeing new bands and taking in new cultures. These holidays took place around Australia on Arakwal and Anangu land and also throughout Europe.

lyrics

We packed supplies and excitement into a camper van
There’s no better way to get to know someone then road tripping
The dirt was red, horizon filled with stubborn emus
I’ll never forget the moment we arrived at Uluru

As the sunset, the colours changed
I’d seen pictures but this put them to shame
At that moment, yeah I knew
Wanted to spend my life road tripping with you

The obvious next step was some music festivals
So we headed to the camping store to purchase essentials
That very day we ended up buying our first home
With two bedrooms made from canvas a net for the mosquitos

We smuggled in the contraband and erected the tent
We had magical moments shared between old and new friends
We spent our time stumbling upon our new favourite bands
But it went sour sneaking in your cousin sharing a wristband

Her boyfriend, He never came
So I ventured outside for the exchange
But I was cooked, I couldn’t hide
Despite best efforts, your mother realised

Road tripping through
Countryside that’s new
There’s no better view
But still so much more to do

Our wedding was easily the best day of my life
But I couldn’t wait to honeymoon with my brand new wife
Spent time in Paris, Italy then set off for Amsterdam
Where we shared an experience we never could have planned

We got lost, But found our way
I almost fell, but you had me saved
Life or death, we faced our fears
But had to ration all the edible souvenirs

Road tripping to Some off beat avenue
We’ve got the greatest crew Still so much more to do

I have been writing songs for my bands (Chris Duke and the Royals, Ivan Dargo + many shitty high school bands) over the last 20 years and I always hoped he would release solo music “One Day”. Thanks to help from some of his super talented friends that day is today! ... more
